Promotion Party

21 03 2012

Minor League Baseball teams have long been known for their ingenuity in the world of promotions. In the short history of this franchise, the Aces have staked their claim as one of professional baseball’s best at providing valuable discount offers and high-quality promotional giveaways.

In 2012, the club has taken things one step further. This season, all 72 games at Aces Ballpark will feature a discount offer, theme night, giveaway or promotion. You quite literally won’t attend a game this season without being treated to something special.

Here’s a look at some of our recurring promotions for the 2012 season. You can find the full promotional schedule by clicking HERE.

Reno ties to the 2011 Fall Classic

18 10 2011

The Fall Classic is upon us once again, and a quick look at the roster reveals several players with ties to the Pacific Coast League–and, more specifically–the Aces.

While there aren’t any former Aces on World Series rosters, 10 of the 50 players on the Cardinals and Rangers active rosters have played against the Aces. Both the Cardinals’ affiliate (the Memphis Redbirds) and Rangers’ affiliate (2011 – Round Rock; 2009-10 – Oklahoma City) play in the American Conference, so Reno only plays each team four times per season.

With that said, here is a breakdown of how current World Series participants have fared against Reno since the Aces joined the PCL in 2009.

Most notably, Cards right-hander Kyle Lohse pitched at Aces Ballpark on a rehab assignment in 2010, striking out nine and allowing just one run in 7 IP. Here’s the box score from that game.

St. Louis reliever Lance Lynn started the game before Lohse (tough back-to-back match-ups for the good guys), going six innings and giving up just a single run. Lynn and Lohse won back-to-back games against the Aces in games two and three of the August series, but Reno won the other two games behind current D-backs’ sensation Josh Collmenter and two-year Ace Matt Torra.

Other Cardinals that have faced the Aces include: Fernando Salas (1 IP, 1 ER), Daniel Descalso (.333, 2 HR in 4 games), Adron Chambers (.412, 1 HR, 4 RBIs in 8 games), Allen Craig (.333, 1 3B in 6 games) and Jon Jay (.353, 1 2B in 4 games).

On the Rangers side, the biggest name to face Reno is current Texas closer Neftali Feliz, who in 2009 started for the Rangers’ former Triple-A affiliate, the Oklahoma City RedHawks (Texas has since become affiliated with the Round Rock Express, also of the PCL).

On May 26, 2009, Feliz started against Reno, allowing 2 ER in 3.2 IP at Aces Ballpark, taking the loss while getting out-dueled by eventual PCL wins leader Tony Barnette. Feliz later was molded into a closer, and the rest is history.

Scott Feldman started once against the Aces this past season, taking a no decision after allowing 4 ER in 5.2 IP on May 24 at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Aces catcher and former University of Nevada standout Konrad Schmidt homered against Feldman, in a game the Express would go on to win 5-4.

Finally, Rangers’ reserve infielder Esteban German has at-bats against Reno in each of the past three seasons, appearing in 11-of-12 all-time games between the Aces and the Rangers’ two Triple-A affiliates. In 38 at-bats over those 11 games, German hit .316 with 2 HR and 12 RBIs, while swiping four bags.

So while you may not be able to make the pilgrimage to Dallas or St. Louis this October, you can stop by Aces Ballpark any summer to see future World Series heroes right here in your own backyard. Who will this year’s hero be?
